SUMMARY:Deconstructing the Past of the Sutton/Kolongowski Farmhouse
DESCRIPTION:The Manchester Area Historical Society will be hosting a series of workshops beginning Saturday\, October 7\, 1:00 PM at the historic Sutton/Kolongowski farmhouse\, located at 11703 Noggles Road in Manchester Township. The focus of these workshops is to document the history of this property\, and the deconstruction of this home as the property prepares for transfer to Legacy Land Conservancy.\n\nDiscover the hidden history of a humble farmhouse in southwest Manchester Township that has come to the end of its road. As the house is deconstructed\, we will observe how the original structure of the house was augmented; examine the building methods and materials used over the decades; and tell the stories of the two families who called this place home – all in the context of the unique history and natural resources of the Iron Creek area.\n\nMAHS is partnering with several organizations to present these workshops:\n\n\n\nRay Berg\, Manchester Area Historical Society\nChris Rutherford\, Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit\, Executive Director\nMarian Feinberg\, Eastern Michigan University\, Preservation Studies M.S. candidate & Halle Library Archives Assistant\nLaura Sutton\, great-great granddaughter of Richard Sutton who built the house in 1858\nSybil Kolon\, granddaughter of Louis Kolongowski who updated the house in 1949\nSilas Bialecki\, lifelong Iron Creek resident and passionate interpreter of natural resources and local indigenous history.\n\nThe series will comprise 4 sessions\, beginning on October 7th. The remaining sessions will be scheduled according to the somewhat unpredictable progress of the actual deconstruction\, but we expect to be meeting weekly on Saturdays.\n\n\nFor further details\, see this link: Deconstructing the Past of the Sutton/Kolongowski Farmhouse (mahsmi.org)\n\nThe workshops are free\, but we ask you to register at this EventBrite link: Deconstructing the Past of the Sutton/Kolongowski Farmhouse Tickets\, Sat\, Oct 7\, 2023 at 1:00 PM | Eventbrite\n\nWe look forward to having you join us!

SUMMARY:Manchester Historic Craft Project at the Blacksmith Shop Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Manchester Historic Craft Project at the Blacksmith Shop Museum is hosting a recurring event to encourage volunteers to join us\, while at the same time teach historic craft\, and sell it to sustain the program.  The textile area of the Project will be offering a weekly gathering on Thursday evenings\, beginning June 8 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Blacksmith Shop Museum. The focus will be to craft items that can be sold in our gift shops. Instruction and materials will be provided. The items we make will use techniques and craft that are demonstrated on Sundays and special events\, such as: rug hooking\, wool appliqué\, paper cutting\, spinning\, weaving\, and other craft that we expand into our program. \nConsider joining us to learn\, teach\, volunteer and create a sustainable community program. \nWe are also requesting specific tools and materials for donation that can be dropped off on Sundays at the Blacksmith Shop Museum. Our current wish list includes a Treadle Sewing Machine in working order\, 100% woven wool fabric (bolt\, light weight blanket‐army/navy\, skirt\, trousers)\, and 100% linen fabric (bolt\, or clothing).

SUMMARY:MAHS Annual Picnic
DESCRIPTION:We are planning to once again hold our annual MAHS picnic on Thursday\, June 8\, at 6:00 PM\, at the home and historic barn setting of Norma Every\, 11533 Braun Road (SW corner of Lima Center Road)\, in Bridgewater Township. This wonderful barn setting has served as our gathering place for previous MAHS picnics\, and we are very pleased that Norma has agreed to once again host this event! She also wants everyone to see the additional restoration work she has been performing on her buildings!\n\nMAHS will supply plates\, utensils\, napkins\, cups\, etc.\, as well as a variety of drinks. We ask you to bring a dish of your choice to share.\n\nWe will also have our usual “white elephant” ticket event. Please consider bringing an item from around your home (old\, new\, antique\, unusual) that you wish to donate to this fun event. You will receive a ticket for the drawing to choose one of the items.\n\nWe’d appreciate your response if you are coming\, so we can plan accordingly. Please reply to rayberg@att.net
